Membership Breakdown

The following will give a breakdown of what our member’s membership listings stand for:

Associate members = These members have products associated with flooring applications; for example, screed, glue, dustless sand and seal, skirting & profiles, moisture barriers, Etc.

Corporate member = These members are importers or manufacturers of wood, laminate or vinyl planks. All laminate products listed on the home page of the SAWLFA web site have certificates confirming the quality of the boards. We are unable to confirm the quality of products not listed and careful background checks should be conducted if the use of non-listed products is to be used.

Retail members = Sell flooring products to the consumer only – Most members have been in business for quite some time and are fully aware of the advantages of using companies associated with quality products. However products should be checked re their quality and always double check the product you have chosen is the right product for the use it is intended for. These members may not be accredited to install floors but they may sub-contract to accredited installers, this would need to be checked.

Retail/Installer members = Sell flooring products to the consumer only – Most members have been in business for quite some time and are fully aware of the advantages of using companies associated with quality products. However products should be checked re their quality and always double check the product you have chosen is the right product for the use it is intended for. These members have their own installers that are accredited through the association. (These members will be in the possession of an accreditation badge as explained below)

Installer members = Accredited installers who have passed the correct installation procedures on a basic installation exam. (These members will be in the possession of an accreditation badge as explained below and sub-contract to the retailers). Our strict exam covers what is required to avoid a floor failure.

Installer members = Advanced accreditation = these members have completed a 6-7 hour exam, which consists of the fitting of stair cases, curved walls, cutting around basins. Installers are unable to take the advanced exam until they have passed our basic accreditation exam.

When customers are dealing with retail members please ensure that the retail members either have accredited installers or sub-contract to an accredited installer, this if you require an installation.

A full list of accredited installers can be found on our web site, if they are not listed then please request a copy of their ID badge, a sample copy below – This will display the association’s logo, the full name of the installer and the date accreditation was passed and is the size of your driver’s licence.
